Moira Jean is one of Wellington’s most sought-after vocalists. With her contemporary look, wide-ranging sound and passionate delivery, she’s sheer versatility.
The frontwoman of choice for high-profile bands such as Raw Collective, The Fades and Superbad, she also regularly collaborates with some of the country’s top musicians including jazz big-band legend Rodger Fox, and drummer, composer and producer Reuben Bradley, playing his original music as well as performing at jazz festivals around the country as part of Reuben Bradley’s Sing! Sing! Sing!
Growing up in Auckland, and in bands since she was 12, Moira Jean moved to
Wellington in her teens to train at the New Zealand School of Music. She loves the Wellington music scene – its hip eclecticism, and its collaborative culture that sees her performing not only in her own bands but with many others in guest spots – the Richter City Rebels and the Royal New Zealand Airforce party band.
Her latest recorded features are in recent releases from Raw Collective on their album ‘For The Ancients’, on Canadian producer and pianist Ghostnaut’s album ‘Sideways’, and the new collaborative album between Raw Collective and Ghostnaut ‘From Montreal to Welly’. She collaborates regularly with Ghostnaut as a solo musician in her own rite as well, having appeared on his latest single ‘Delight’ with Ozay Moore and Raashan Ahmad.
Whether it’s raw, gutsy emotion or her engaging humour, Moira Jean always gives her audiences a good time. Inviting. Engaging. Effervescent. Absolutely professional and with a work ethic that always delivers.
